Frequently Asked Questions ***All pilots are strongly encouraged to also read the Pilot Advisory Guide as well as the Frequently Asked Questions*** 1. What airports will be staffed for the event?
The Miami ARTCC will be staffing Miami International (KMIA) and Ft. Lauderdale International (KFLL). We will also be staffing other airports as staff is available.
2. Why must aircraft register on your site?
The registrations hold a dual purpose. First, the registrations ensure that enough airspace will exist for the safe and smooth transfer from an enroute airspace to a terminal airspace. Second, the registrations will enter the pilots into a random drawing to win some fantastic prizes. The Miami ARTCC will be issuing time slots in ten minute blocks, and all aircraft are expected to arrive within their assigned block. 3. How many time slots are available?
There are a limited number of time slots available for the event. The number per airport is as follows:
Miami International (KMIA): 60 slots per hour Ft. Lauderdale International (KFLL): 60 slots per hour
The Miami ARTCC Traffic Management Unit has an automated time slot system, under "Pilot Registrations". Time slots are issued on a first come, first serve basis.
4.What if I dont get a time slot in time? Pilots that don't register are still more then welcome to join in! Pilots without a time slot will be brought into the restricted airspace on a traffic permitting basis, so pilots should expect one or more holds on their arrival. Be prepared!
5. Can I depart from one of the event airports?
Yes. Pilots departing from one of the event airports during a busy period under an IFR flight plan will be issued an EDCT (Expect Departure Clearance Time) with their clearance. This EDCT will be issued by the Miami Traffic Management Unit through the appropriate air traffic controller to fill empty arrival time slots. Pilots should expect a departure clearance close to their issued time, so plan accordingly! 6. Why is there a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) for this event?
The Temporary Flight Restriction was put into place to ensure a safe airspace for the expected high traffic levels for this event. All aircraft that have been issued an arrival slot will be authorized to use this airspace. Aircraft that have not received a time slot will be brought into this restricted airspace traffic permitting.
7. Does that mean I cannot fly VFR?
VFR aircraft are welcome to join the event, but due to the expected high IFR traffic levels, there are some restrictions. VFR flight will be strictly controlled within the 10NM radius of the TFR and VFR aircraft within the 30NM radius must adhere to the following:
Be on an active VFR flight plan Squawk Mode C at all times while airborne in the TFR airspace Sqauwk their assigned discrete transponder code Remain in two-way radio communications with air traffic control 8. Where will you ship prizes to?
Due to international shipping regulations, we are only able to ship prizes within the United States or to a US Territory, but we do have a large number of other prizes that do not require shipping that international pilots will be eligible to win.
